Lefdal Mine Datacenter: Heart-Safe Deep Underground

Lefdal, Norway

A Rotaid™ 24/7 cabinet keeps teams safe inside a mountain

Deep inside a Norwegian mountain, one of Europe's most unusual datacenters is keeping its team heart-safe. The Lefdal Mine Datacenter has installed a Rotaid™ 24/7 AED cabinet — proof that cardiac safety has no limits, not even underground.

The Lefdal Mine Datacenter is no ordinary facility. Carved into solid rock in western Norway, it houses server infrastructure for clients including Sigma2 and NRIS — Norwegian Research Infrastructure Services. The mountain provides natural cooling and physical protection, making it one of the most energy-efficient and secure datacenters in Europe.

But even in the most extraordinary environments, the basics of safety remain the same. A cardiac arrest can happen anywhere — and response time is everything. By installing a Rotaid™ 24/7 AED cabinet directly on the tunnel wall, the team at Lefdal Mine ensures that anyone working underground has immediate access to life-saving equipment, without having to reach the surface first.

The cabinet's visibility is immediate. Mounted at eye level in the main tunnel corridor, with its characteristic green indicator light active, it is impossible to miss — even in the dramatic, low-light environment of the mine interior.

At Rotaid, we are proud to be part of environments that push the boundaries of what infrastructure can look like. From city centers to mountain mines, the mission stays the same: make AED cabinets available wherever people work and live.
