We are proud to announce that we have reached the milestone of 50.000 produced AED cabinets. Thanks to our partners in more than 65 countries, we have made 50.000 heart-safe areas around the world. On to the next 50.000
A great milestone reached in Belgium. Our partner Heartsaver vzw has now installed 150 AEDs at school facilities across Flanders. The Belgian minister of Education and Sports, Ben Weyts, also attended the celebration and emphasized the importance of 24/7 accessible AEDs. The respective school, Sint-Victor, is located centrally in the area. With the AED installed outside the school gates, it is also 24 hours a day available for people in the neighbourhood. We are proud to be part of this project with our Rotaid 24/7 cabinet. Many congratulations to Luc Ketele with this achievement.
Great social engagement from the Dutch branche organization BOVAG!Together with its members, 100 AEDs with Rotaid cabinets will be installed at local, publicly accessible places such as sports venues, libraries, or schools. BOVAG members that request an AED will receive a personalized backboard, which will highlight their organization and will increase the AED’s findability and recognizability. We are proud to be part of this great project together with ProCardio and Philips! Read Dutch article here: www.bovag.nl/nieuws
Defibrillators are to be installed along new cycleways in two Cork areas with more to be added as the cycleways expand around the city. Stryker, one of the world’s leading medical technology companies is partnering up with Cork County Council to deliver the life-saving AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators) across the routes. The several-kilometre stretch of cycleway in the local communities in Carrigtwohill and Glounthaune are to see three life-saving AEDs, housed in vintage phone boxes along the cycleway. The phone box provides an ideal housing for the AEDs, protecting them from the elements, but has the added benefit of being a highly visible landmark in the event of an emergency. The provision of the AEDs, phone boxes, installation and maintenance, amounts to a significant investment by Stryker to the local community. In addition to the investment of over €70,000, community training will also be provided for the safe use of AEDs. Mayor of Cork County, Cllr. Gillian Coughlan welcomed the delivery of the AEDs, saying: “This collaboration is now set to bring further positive benefits with the addition of defibrillators which will be complemented with local training. “This initiative shows the importance of public and private cooperation in identifying valuable community developments and, in this case, could literally be a life saver.” Stryker is planning to provide and install further defibrillator phone boxes and Cork’s cycleways expand. We like to congratulate Network Rail and Northern with the fantastic initiative to install life saving defibrillators at their railway stations across the North West in the UK. With the first installation at Blackburn station completed, the next phase will see 40 more stations being equipped with these vital medical facilities to ensure safe travel for the thousands of daily passengers. Our partner Aero Healthcare UK has provided Stryker Emergency Care defibrillators that are securely stored and highly visible in our Rotaid 247 cabinets. The stations will have the best possible medical technology to their disposal in case of a sudden cardiac arrest and will definitely make a huge difference! Safe travels! Link: networkrailmediacentre

The Netherlands are globally recognized for being front runners when it comes to the fight against sudden cardiac arrest. Since 2007, numerous initiatives have been initiated and with spectacular results. Thanks to extensive, large-scale, scientific research by Ruud Pijls, PhD, we are now finally able to define, quantify and understand these initiatives and their impact on sudden cardiac arrest. We learned about important demographic characteristics, like average age and gender. But also where sudden cardiac arrest is most likely to occur and key-succes factors in survival rates. These valuable and evident insights provide us with substantiated guidance that allows us to make AEDs as effective as possible. We like to sincerely thank Ruud and also Hartstichting for their research which we have summarized in a special infographic.Via the link you can download Ruud's thesis in full: https://lnkd.in/diBZrWKLink to full image

We are very proud to have partnered with Lidl Belgium & Luxemburg and vzw Heartsaver on this exciting and groundbreaking new project. We installed multiple retail sites in Belgium with our Rotaid 24/7 connected solution. Great to see how Lidl embraces corporate social responsibility by making their AEDs available for its customers and nearby communities. All defibrillators are remotely monitored and accessible 24 hours a day, ensuring a sustainable and effective life saving system. We congratulate and thank all involved in this great project!
Our cabinets are deployed in a variety of in- and outdoor environments and therefore have to meet the highest requirements when it comes to secure and safe storage of Automated External Defibrillators. With our recent product updates and launch of our Rotaid 24/7 connected cabinet, we asked renowned testing agency EAG Laboratories | A Eurofins Company to run an extensive testing program. This program was conducted in the first quarter of 2020 and focused on dust, ingress, impact and salt-spray protection. The test program was concluded with a radio and signal test, to learn more about the cabinets’ performance when it comes to signal transmittance from and to the cabinet. We are proud to present the results of this program in the attached Quality Report. You can find a complete insight into the report here.
Mommy...what is this red box for....? This box used to have a phone in it and we used to call our friends. We can now use it to save our friends"! A massive thank you to Nicola Shields from Scotland for sharing this story and wonderful picture with us. The famous Gilbert Scott designed K6 or Jubilee kiosk was launched in 1936 to celebrate King George V’s silver jubilee. By the 1960’s almost 70,000 kiosks could be found across the countryside, and whilst the public payphone service has undergone enormous changes since then, the traditional red kiosk had already forged itself as an iconic symbol of British life. BT and The Community Heartbeat Trust, are working together to help communities turn their adopted telephone boxes into local medical centres, by using them as homes for Public Access Defibrillators, storing the defibrillator in a well recognised, safe, weather-protected location.
We are pleased to announce that Michiel-Bastiaan Kerskes has been appointed as our new Commercial Director. He will be responsible for the further global business development of our products and services. Michiel-Bastiaan brings in a vast experience in the international medical devices and AED industry and we are very excited to have him on board. "I am very happy that Michiel-Bastiaan has joined our team. His enthusiasm, experience and drive will greatly contribute to our mission of becoming the global symbol for an AED", says Ruben Halmans, Managing Director of Rotaid™ AED Cabinets.
Entering the Belgian village of Morkhoven, the bakery ‘Bakkerij Belmans-Saelen’ catches your eye straight away. Smiling with their contagious smiles are three happy children wearing baker’s hats, pictured on a life-sized image. They are smiling not only because of the delights available at the bakery, but also because something else is sparkling on the building’s façade. Read this beautiful story on how Rotaid’s round, outdoor cabinet makes these children proud and made Wim, their father, the hero of Morkhoven …… We talk to Wim at his kitchen table. ‘Peaceful’, can be used to describe Wim Belmans’ bakery, but looks can be deceiving. Although his three bakeries located in Morkhoven, Westerlo and Zammel are closed on Mondays, Wim has just finished his working day. “We are preparing the bread for tomorrow morning”, Wim explains. He is no descendant from a baker’s family. At the age of thirteen Wim started working at the local bakery, helping out during the weekends. He then started working there after school and after eight years Wim decided to take over the whole bakery. “It used to be a little shop, but I totally renewed and rebuilt it. Those were tough times, working many hours a day. In the end, it is not that strange I suddenly encountered a heart attack…. and this eventually resulted in another one”. “I was in the bakery alone when it happened and was just able to call my wife”, he continues. “She called the emergency services right away. It made me think. I kept working the hours as I did before. But what if it happens to me again? I was approached by the non-profit ‘HeartSaver’ to help sponsor an AED for the school in Westerlo. After what happened to me, I decided to purchase an AED and a Rotaid outdoor cabinet myself. I knew I did not only want to have it in case it happened to me again, but to secure a heart safe environment for all people in town. And therefore, I installed the cabinet and AED to my bakery’s façade.” A lot of attention! The news spread like a wildfire. “I was interviewed by the newspaper and the local television. Everybody talked about it and people visiting the bakery asked questions about the AED. I must have opened the cabinet at least a hundred times, just to show how swift and easy the cabinet can be opened. Everyone can use it. ‘If my children can use it, you can definitely use it too’, is what I tell my customers. To make the people in my town familiar with using an AED, I organised a training session in our parish hall together with Luc Ketele from HeartSaver. I made sure our guests had something to drink and eat, while Luc provided all the needed information about CPR and the use of an AED. It was a successful evening with almost 100 attendees, which brought a lot of attention for the AED and my bakeries”, Wim smiles. “All three locations now have an AED attached to the façade. It was the best publicity ever. However, that is not my intention. I would rather like it to be unnecessary. In my opinion, the government should oblige companies to have a working AED. Starting your own company? Then you should install an AED.” ‘In my opinion, the government should oblige companies to have a working AED. Starting your own company? Then you should install an AED.’ Rotaid’s green, round outdoor cabinet does not just look pretty. Two years after installing the round cabinet at a bakery’s façade in Morkhoven, its AED has been successfully used. Residents acted adequately and used the well-known AED, located at Bakkerij Belmans-Saelen, to save the life of a 83-year-old woman. The combination of quick aid and the availability of an AED saved her life and made Wim the hero of Morkhoven. “I can still remember her husband's warm embrace. It gives me goosebumps again. Not being portrayed as a hero but being able to save a life, gives me a very happy feeling inside.” Doubling the number of AEDs. “In Belgium, approximately 11,000 people suffer from out-of-hospital sudden cardiac arrests every year”, Luc Ketele says. “Less than 10% survives. On-time CPR and the availability of a working AED could increase this number to 60 to 70%. The availability of an AED in a public area is crucial. Unfortunately, Belgium only counts 10,000 AEDs. Together with Rotaid and enthusiastic individuals like Wim Belmans, HeartSaver strives to double the number of public and 24/7 available AEDs in Belgium.”

PLUS Retail has started the roll out of a national defibrillator program that will ensure that all its supermarkets throughout the Netherlands will have a public access defibrillator. These life saving AEDs will be available 247 for clients, employees and local residents. A great initiative and we are so proud to be part of it.
It’s a gift to create life, it’s an art to save it’. Zoals o.a. onze schoolprojecten. Samenwerken is heel belangrijk.

“Begrijp me niet verkeerd”, vertelt Klaas Haan.

Two-time cyclo-cross worldchampion Niels Albert installed a life saving Physio-Control defibrillator on his shop in Tremelo, Belgium. Not only to protect his shop customers, but also to enable life-saving equipment for the people living around his shop. Niels Albert was forced to quit cycling due to heart problems in the height of his career. With this initiative, initiated by Heartsaver Belgium and supported by Vereniging Sport- en Keuringsartsen (SKA), Niels will initiate activities to reduce the number tragic deaths due to cardiac arrests in sports in Belgium.(source: www.hln.be)
The Dutch Heart Association (Hartstichting) announced today it reached its goal of 170.000 registered lay responders. These 170.000 represent 1% of the Dutch population and make the Netherlands the first country in the world with such a large national network of responders. Next to the repsonders, the association also encouraged AED owners in making their device accessible 24 hours a day, resulting in over 1400 new Public Access Defibrillators. Rotaid is very proud to be part of this great project and achievement. Together with the Dutch Heart Association we remain committed to further enlarge the amount of lay responders and accessible defibrillators in the Netherlands. Belgium wants to encourage the purchase of an AED. The government is taking an important step by reducing the VAT from 21 to 6 percent and no longer determines a defibrillator as a luxury product! Belgium now counts 10,000 AEDs compared to the 100,000 from neighbour the Netherlands, which also uses a 6 percent tax rate.
The medical staff of the first team of Roda JC recently added a mobile AED to their equipment. A number of terrible incidents with footballers with heart failure have raised awareness to the staff and players. The presence of an defibrillator can mean the difference between life an death in a cardiac arrest. Therefore last month all players and staff have been trained as a Lay responder. The new AED and the CPR training was offered by Rotaid partner Hartveilig. Campaign 'Reanimeren met Roda JC'Together with Hartveilig, Medtronic, Burgerhulpverlening Limburg and the municipality of Heerlen, Roda JC started the campagne 'Reanimeren met Roda JC'. On March 22nd the campaign kicked off in the Parkstad Limburg Stadium with a private CPR-session. A total of 61 participants, among others Roda JC selection players, municipality management, supporters and sponsors attended the event. Thanks to the event, a total of 213 new lay responders have been trained within six weeks. The successful campaign will take place again in 2018. On the 29th of September 2017, Roda JC will participate to the CPR relay (day) with its youth team. Former Roda JC player and ambassador of the CPR relay Roel Brouwers emphasizes the importance of CPR: "For every minute CPR is started (before the ambulance arrives), the probability of survival increases by 10%. It is a serious cause that has to be brought to everyone's attention, since 300 people are affected by a cardiac arrest every week in the Netherlands”.
We are very happy to see dutch business owner Merin and Reanimatie Netwerk Amersfoort realize their first public AED in office district De Hoef. Their first company-AED is located on RAET managed property. In this way Merin responded to the call made by chairman Henk Pijper of the Reanimatie Netwerk Amersfoort earlier this year to make AED's available to the surroundings on a 24/7 basis. Henk Pijper is very grateful that Merin contributes to a heart-safe environment and hopes many other companies and institutions will follow this good example.
Group Bruno has installed life saving defibrillators at all its 18 service stations in Belgium. The defibrillators are available 24/7 and equipped with our Solid Plus Heat Led outdoor cabinet. Next to the installation of the equipment, Group Bruno also trained its stations' staff to ensure that the thousands of customers that visit them on an daily base, are safe. The project was initiated by our Belgian distributor AED-Partner.
The Dutch Heart Association (Hartstichting) has started with its distribution of 1400 outdoor AED cabinets to sports facilities, libraries, theaters, health centers and other high traffic locations in the Netherlands. On April 20th, the first of these cabinets was revealed at sportsclub VELO in Wateringen and the remaining cabinets are to be all installed by year’s end. The project is financed by Dutch lottery organisation VriendenLoterij. Although 100,000 AED’s are present in the Netherlands, only a small part is available 24 hours a day and registered in first responder networks. With this initiative a large number of AED’s will be made available for first and lay responders, dramatically increasing the survival rate of sudden cardiac arrest that affects 16,000 Dutch people per year. Rotaid AED Cabinets has designed a custom made red Solid Plus Heat LED outdoor cabinet and backboard for this project. We are extremely proud and humble to be part of this great project and have started with the distribution of cabinets to organisations all over the Netherlands.
Very proud to have provided Defibshop with our custom made totem during the Johan Cruyff Golf Memorial which they supported as main sponsor. The Physio-Control, now part of Stryker CR2 defibrillator looked after all guests, players and staff during the event. The Defibshop management and Pep Guardiola had the honour of playing 18 holes together and by doing so, raised funds for the Johan Cruyff Foundation. Gracias a todos!Read the original story here.
Thanks to all our partners at #Rettmobil2017 for 3 great days. New plans are made, new projects are planned and for all, Germany is becoming more heart safe by the day. Bis nächstes Jahr und herzlichen Dank Physio-Control, now part of Stryker für die Gastfreundschaft!
Belgian Football Club KV Mechelen and Heartsaver vzw partnered to install multiple public access defibrillators in the AFAS Stadium. With the installation of 7 devices, the stadium is now well equipped to deal with a sudden cardiac arrest. Also the training ground has been equipped with a device. All defibrillators are safely stored in our outdoor heated cabinets. The cabinets have a special red livery and have been fitted with custom made backboards. Thanks to this customization, the AED’s stand out, but also blend in perfectly with the characteristic red and yellow colors of KV Mechelen. Our Belgian partner Heartsaver vzw provided the units and will continue to work closely with KV Mechelen in the near future. ”Every year in Belgium 11,000 people are affected by a sudden cardiac arrest outside the hospital. Currently less than ten percent survives, “says Luc Ketele, Heartsaver’s CEO. “If you can start CPR with an AED device within five minutes, we can increase survival rates to 70 percent.” We are very proud to have our cabinets installed at one of Belgium’s most iconic football clubs. We also had great pleasure in tailoring our products to the club’s color scheme and are very proud of the results. We like to wish all fans, players, guests and visitors a good match and visit to the AFAS Stadium.

Another idyllic place, Kirkjubøur, the oldest village on the Faeröer, has life saving defibrillators in place. This one is located near the ancient and abandoned Murir cathedral and the local church, which dates to the year 1111! The farm in the background was build 900 years ago and is still owned by the same family (17th generation). About the AEDWhat another great place and our heated outdoor cabinet protects the CardiAid AED for the wet, cold and windy conditions on the islands. Hence, no matter what place or climate, Rotaid makes sure you can have life saving defibrillators available at all times.
We designed our outdoor cabinets to make AED’s available to the public in all possible places and environments. Thousands have already been installed in a variety of venues and countries, but just recently, an installation in the upper north of Norway caught our attention. Extraordinary locationIn the upper tip of Norway lies Altevatn, approximately 1750 kilometres north of Oslo. Every year tourists come to enjoy the beautiful and untouched nature. Situated on a crystal clear lake and surrounded by mountains, the view and experience are truly spectacular. Often, the area can only be reached by dog sled because of the heavy snowfall. A number of wooden cabins are the only sign of civilization and are booked by hikers, fishermen and northern light enthusiasts. Because of its remote location, the Bardu Red Cross installed a defibrillator on one of the cabins. With the additional danger of an avalanche, the defibrillator is a necessary piece of medical equipment for the area. Since any lay can use it, it can deploy a shock much quicker than medical professionals, that need more time to reach the area. Green northern lightSince a lot of the day is experienced in the dark, the LED’s in our outdoor cabinet make the AED visible at all time. So, when nature offers you a northern light show in the sky, or not, we are proud of our round, green northern light that watches over you. At all times. On April 19th the first public accessible AED was installed at Geraardsbergen’s high school De Kaai. With this installation, the school’s students, teachers and employees can enjoy a safe place to learn and work. By offering the AED to the surrounding city center as well, the school makes sure local residents and visitors can also benefit from the AED’s presence. Nico Coster, director of Koninklijk Atheneum in Geraardsbergen, noticed the absence of life saving defibrillators in the city and plans to further extend the network with 9 AED’s in close cooperation with the other schools in the city. As part of our ongoing product development, we are excited to announce our first and exciting development: the new Rotaid audible alarm system. Thanks to the feedback of our customers and users, we have been able to completely redesign our alarm system and meet the requirements that come with any installation. The new system, which is still battery powered, comes with two loudness settings which can be selected via a switch on the system. An 84dB and 98dB loudness setting are now available (measured at 1 meter from speaker) to give more options to the user and increased loudness options. A pause button is also available, that allows the user to temporarily pause the alarm when for example doing maintenance. The alarm is triggered by the same coin-sized magnet in the cover and therefore also allows for retrofitting to existing installations. The system runs on two AA-batteries that are conveniently located on the front of the system. Changing the batteries has never been easier since the battery-cover on the front comes with an indent for easy opening and closing. The new system can be used in all types of Rotaid cabinets and has immediate availability. Visit our Support page to view the new video and spec sheet.
