Rotterdam makes additional 17 AEDs available

Rotterdam - The Netherlands

The municipality of Rotterdam is taking another important step in increasing heart safety in the city. In collaboration with the Dutch Heart Foundation, 17 Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs) have been placed on municipal buildings. The locations of the AEDs have been carefully determined in consultation with the Dutch Heart Foundation and contribute to further extension of the AED network in the city.

Via distributor AED Partner, 17 Rotaid 247 Connected Cabinets were installed, providing safe, secure and monitored storage of the 17 new life-saving machines.

Alderman Simons of the city of Rotterdam

“People's health is the most important thing there is. Thanks to these AEDs, we as a city are able to save lives. Behind every AED is a network of citizen responders who make a crucial contribution to the health of Rotterdam. By installing 17 AEDs on municipal buildings, we are strengthening heart safety and taking a structural step towards a healthier city.”

The AEDs have been placed on the outside of the city's buildings and have been registered with the national system HartslagNu that mobilizes citizen responders during a nearby cardiac arrest. In this way, the municipality not only contributes to the direct availability of life-saving equipment, but also to the crucial network of citizen responders. These citizen responders can be on site within 6 minutes and start resuscitation and defibrillation, which greatly increases the chance of survival in the event of cardiac arrest.

The municipality of Rotterdam calls on property owners to also equip their buildings with AEDs, so that more and more areas in the city become heart safe.
